Mediterranean Marina began as a painting inspired by my return to the South of France after eight long years of neurological recovery. My time at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival reawakened old memories, weaving together a sense of loss and renewal that I aimed to capture on canvas. Forced to leave behind the life I had painstakingly built in France due to a benzodiazepine-induced injury, the scene reflects an emotional synthesis of past experiences and present aspirations, infused with imagination.

I always felt a sense of awe and adventure sitting around marinas in The Med, as the sun bears down on sparkling silver and golden waters that dance around boats from all parts of the world.

These marinas have always felt like sanctuaries—places where weary travellers can find refuge from the unpredictable vastness of the open sea. They offer a moment to restock, reconnect, and rediscover humanity, serving as meeting points for dreamers, explorers, and seekers of new horizons.

To me, the transient energy of such places feels both haunting and deeply reassuring. They embody the fluid passage of time, offering a moment of stillness before venturing into unknown waters once more. As I continue to heal and rebuild my life, marinas remain a hopeful symbol—an anchorage for reflection and the promise of new adventures.
